Valvoline Motor Oil tapped the creative team of Estensen and Whitaker to tell the story of what their products—and especially their Instant Oil Change locations—do for the vehicles of today's busiest people. When it came time to select a director to tell these visual tales, JC interviewed, and eventually hired, a team that had recently built a flying trapeze mount for motion picture cameras and wielded it with much success in Sam Rami's Spiderman movies, hence the device's name: Spider Cam. This Valvoline campaign was one of the very first small screen productions to use the apparatus that millions now see in use every Sunday as a regular part of NFL broadcasts.
